Brian's Father's Day Video

I made Brian a video in honor of his first Father's Day. I used the song Unforgettable because he loves to play it for her at night.

  1. This was a very sweet present. Thank you very much Janean for posting some of the highlights and taking the trouble to put it to music. Perhaps I should include a few notes about what's been going on recently as well. On the night of June 15, Drea stood up unassisted for the first time. She had been pulling up on our hands with both of hers, that slight boost giving her enough extra pull to lift herself up. That night, I put her to bed, and she got mad, as she often does. One of the times when I went in to check on her, instead of finding her sitting as had been her usual practice, she was standing. Quite honestly, I was torn about what to do at that point. The female Dr. Syed gave the first effective advice in getting her to sleep since she's moved from the nap nanny to the crib. Check on her every two minutes that she's crying. Go in, put your hand on her back if she's laying down. Hold it there until she calms down, or for at minute at most, then leave. Never meet her eyes or acknowledge her. We're supposed to be ice cold mama and daddy. Well I was very proud. And it's probably a short window when she'll actually want our approval before she get's a bit older.

But then I couldn't show it. Then I felt bad to realize that I made her that angry. Well much of being a parent is giving them what they need to become a better person instead of what they want, and in regards to sleep her needs and wants are usually almost always diametrically opposed. I do wish I'd gotten a picture though.

Most of a week after that she only stood when she'd get mad because she had been put to bed. Yesterday for the first time she stood up without that extra shot of adrenaline.

  2. Well, she's also been standing up in the crib in the morning to let us know she's up for the day. Ever since that first time you saw her pull up in the crib she's been pulling up all over the place on everything she could grab in the living room; I didn't realize she was only doing it when you weren't around though. LOL I promise it has nothing to do with adrenaline. :D
